A Day at Camp

From Morning Bell to Lights Out
Every day at camp is its own small adventure.
Morning: the lake wakes up early
7:30 am - The morning bell. Brave campers who want a polar bear swim have five minutes to get to the dock. 8:00 am - Breakfast in the dining hall, family style. Campers sit with their cabin group. Announcements from the director. 9:00 am - Cabin clean-up and inspection. Points count toward the end-of-session trophy. 9:30 am to 12:30 pm - Three waterfront and activity periods. Campers rotate through sailing, kayaking, swimming, and one land activity on a schedule they helped build on day one.

Afternoon: the pace slows down just enough
12:45 pm - Lunch and the day's second round of announcements. 1:30 pm - Rest hour. This is real rest: hammocks, writing letters home, reading, or quietly sitting by the water. No structured activity. 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm - Three more activity periods including open swim and a choice block where campers pick from whatever is available that afternoon. 6:00 pm - Dinner. Themed meals on Thursdays. Dessert every night.
Evening: the part of the day they write home about
7:15 pm - Evening program. This rotates nightly: capture the flag, talent night, all-camp cookout, movie on the lawn, or cabin challenge. 9:00 pm - Cabin time. Younger campers get a story from their counselor. Older campers get the quiet before lights out. 9:30 pm to 10:00 pm - Lights out, depending on age group. Counselors do a bunk check and then gather for their own debrief. Tomorrow starts the same way, and somehow the campers always wake up ready for it.
